The hotel picked me up at the station and brought me through the narrow streets to river Ganges and the Ghats. At the hotel, I had brakfast together with two Italian girls - Miriam & Stefanie and we decided to discover the city together.
Our hotel was at Scindia Ghat right next to Manikarnika Ghat - the place where the dead people are burned and there ashes are handed over to the Ganges. Women are not allowed down be the fire, so we looked at it from a terrace and we were surprised that it did not smell bad at all. You just smell the wood and the oil they are burning but not the bodies.
We walked along side the river on many ghats (stairs that go down into the river) and the returned with a boat for the evening ceremonies at the biggest ghat. Then we hurried to hotel as it was very dark.
The next morning short after six, we went on a boat trip to see the people wash themself in the Ganges to get rid off their bad kharma.
Before lunch, we went shopping for silk and pashmina.
Later on we headed to the fort, which is on the other side of the river and to reach it you have to go over a bridge of pontoons. On top of the pontoos there is wood and on this metall stripes, so that it is like street. But if you go by autorickshaw over it, it feels more like a roller coaster.
In the evening, we had dinner together with a French man in another hotel as our chef took the evening off without notice. Then I said goodbye to the Italians and left for the train station where I spent most of the night as the train was running late more than 4 hours.
