Glacier skiing in Kaprun

On Monday, we headed south to Kaprun. Before the glacier skiing area, there is a smaller mountain with two chair lifts and a ski lift. We had the car parked in the valley and after a warm up round on the Maiskogel we hopped on the ski bus and headed up to the Glacier Jet.

 Maiskogel

A lot of people were on the slopes - nonetheless the parking lot was not yet half full.

We started with one of the ski routes - X4 (Jumpy) that led down in a creek to the top of the first Glacier Jet.

Then we took several chair & ski lifts to reach the highest point of the skiing area just below the Kitzsteinhorn, where we met Inka for lunch. The seating area was very small and we had to sit on bar stools while eating.

After lunch we explored the mountain and took pictures of the panorama - even tough the sun was not really cutting through the clouds. There was a tunnel leading to a view point explaining the exploration of the mountain for gold, silver and crystals.

We tried another ski route X2 (West side Story) and liked it much better than the first.

 Cliff Jumper?

All in all, Kaprun is a nice skiing area if there is no more snow in the valley.

Riders' Top Picks:

  • Chris: 5b (black)
  • Inka: did not like the area
  • Victor: X2 (West side Story)
