Landshuter Hochzeit - The wedding of Landshut 1475

Today, my mom, Inka, Andreas and me made a one hour drive to the city of Landshut. It's a nice little town in Bavaria with a lot of old buildings neatly arranged the main street.

Every four years the town is celebrating a historic marriage from 1475. Then Duke Ludwig the Rich wanted to marry off his son. He negiotiated with the King of Poland about his daughter - Princess Hedwig. They agreed and the princess and her entourage left Krakau beginning their long journey over the border to Berlin, then Wittenberg, Oelsnitz and finally Landshut.

Due to the struggles on the way and the Black Death, the journey took longer than expected, but when they finally made it, it was a big party and the whole town was fed on the Duke's expenses.

We visited the play and dance show in the pomp hall of the city hall building. After the lovely show, we walked around the town to the fairground where knights, maids and other people were feasting.
