The Bavarian Sea - Chiemsee

This sunday, my dad, Gabi, Victor and me left for the Bavarian Sea - the Chiemsee. The lake is situated about 100 km south-east of Munich, has the Alps as a backdrop

and the three islands:
  • Herreninsel (Island of Men)
  • Fraueninsel (Island of Women)
  • Krautinsel (Island of Herbs/ Cabbage)
Small tourist ships carry you around from the towns at the banks to islands.

We went first to the Fraueninsel, on which there is an abbey founded in the 8th century and this old nunnery is still working today. We walked around the island and stopped by a beergarden for lunch. We had all fresh fish from lake that was very delicious.

Another ship brought us the other big island - Herreninsel. On this island King Ludwig II let build a wonderful castle after the model of Versailles. He only lived there for 10 days, which was normal for him. He was known as the Fairy Tale King because he built so many beautiful castles:
  • Neuschwanstein Castle (inspiration for Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle)
  • Linderhof Castle
  • Herrenchiemsee Castle

Me, my brother and my dad on the ship:
