Closure of the 2023/2024 ski season

Beginning of March, the Austrian Alps - time for skiing at the Reiteralm - same procedure as every year, Miss Sophie - äh - Chris.

Victor, Kajo and I started out with a day at the Hochkönig (High King) - we skied from Mühlbach via Dienten to Maria Alm and back. The temperature was quite high and the snow was more slush than solid snow cover and at some places in the valley it nearly disappeared from the slopes.

Let's do a selfie to make the others envious

Having fun with the camera

The queen arrived

Nearly 4 pm - dusk was falling

Around 4 pm, we left and headed to our destination for the week - the Almdorf Reiteralm. This year, we had a smaller chalet next to the one we usually book. It also had a sauna and a jacuzzi.

snow only on the slopes

Compared to previous years, the snow really disappeared and during the week some slopes deteriorated so much we could not ski them down anymore. An early start usually paid off by getting a couple of fast, hard snow runs in before the melting started.

Lunch time offered the chance to try out different mountain huts for feed and trying to find the best Kaiserschmarrn (Emperor's Madness). I also liked:

Frittaten soup (pancake soup) and

BBQ plate.

The weather was very mixed - cold -warm - gloomy - cloudy - sunny - snowy:

One of our favourite photo spots - the heart on top of the Reiterlm:

Usually, we cooked dinner in our chalet - I made Kaßler & Klöße on Monday night. For Saturday, we decided to travel up to the Hochalm by skidoo, have dinner there and then head down by sleighs. For me, the most dangerous part of the trip. This year, we lost a sleigh somewhere in the forest, but the rider insured only his pride.
