Tsarang to Lo Manthang

Next morning we did some sightseeing - Tsarang had a big monastery and a palace. A regular challenge with the monasteries was to find the key monk who would open the doors for us and collect a fee (200 rupees ~ 1,50€). We visited the monastery but did not have anymore time for the palace as the key man was not yet found.

One of us brought balloons for the kids, so we always knew if Ernst had already passed that way:

So we grapped our luggage and headed north in direction of Lo Manthang - our final destination. We walked on a sandy desert road and half-way there was a big chörten dividing the road. All chörten consist of a relic that makes them holy and worship them by passing on the left side in clockwise direction.

While we took some rest there, suddenly several Chinese tractors and road construction machinery overtook us, cause a big stir and headed in direction of Lo Manthang.

We followed shortly and climbed the last 4000 m pass - the Lo La - in my memories it would always be the windy pass as I was nearly blown of the top.

Continuing the road downhill we soon arrived in Lo Manthang and rested. I was totally exhausted. By now also fighting a cold. After lunch and resting on the sunny divan in the dining hall I recovered.
